God of the Bramble

Moses had been living on the sidelines in the desert, the life of a Midianite shepherd. But while tending sheep on the slopes of the mountain of God, Moses saw the bramble in flames yet not consumed by the fire. Thus began the conversation that turned his world, and rest of the Middle East upside-down. The LORD God had come down to make Himself known and He was starting with Moses.

When we sing

God created us to remember songs and wanted that trait to remind us of Him and His Word. And the songs we sing can teach our minds and enliven our hearts.  So let His Word dwell in you every day of the week with musical reminders for the glory of the One who created us, Jesus Christ.

Christ the Image of God

Paul writes to this church to reinforce what they had previously learned of Christ Jesus. He is the perfect Revelation of who God is because He is God in the flesh. God as Creator of all that is or ever has been or will be. Creator of the things that publicly deny Him as Creator. The fullness of God dwells in Him. And He has chosen to reveal Himself through His body, the church, flawed as she is. How shall we live with such a responsibility as this.

Moses traded up

It boggles the mind how Moses willingly traded the power, prestige, pleasure and treasure of Pharaoh’s household in order to identify with slaves. Yet with a hope that could not be realized in this life or even in this world, Moses by faith counted the cost and saw the gain in following Christ. How about you? Following Christ may cost you less than Moses forsook, but it’s still hard to let it go sometimes. But what holds us back is garbage compared to what is offered before us in Christ. Let’s endure together.

Pilgrims with God

By faith, Abraham and Sarah waited and endured, moving forward. They lived in tents, meaning they didn’t live for the things of this world nor for the approval of this world. They dug wells, they improved the circumstances of those around them for generations to come. Abraham and Sarah built altars, they sought to draw others to the true God around them and for generations to come.

Faith beyond sight

Fireworks are a short-lived thrill.  But it takes faith to live for something eternal because what is eternal is invisible to the eyes of the flesh.  Abel chose to pursue the invisible God with sacrificial worship.  Enoch walked with the invisible God knowing that the LORD rewards those who seek Him.  Noah prepared for eternity by not trusting his eyes but trusting the Word of God.

Importance of Weakness

We all face times when the world seems out of control and a dangerous place.  For many of us, the last couple months have seemed such a time.  But in those positions of weakness, as much as we hate them, embracing that weakness gives us opportunity to know God in a more intimate way.  Only then can we know as the psalmist that the LORD is our refuge and our strength.

Psalm 46

Praise the LORD

The works of the LORD show that He deserves to be praised.  Those works reveal His character.  Those works compel us to fear God and do His commandments.  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.

Song of Giving Thanks

Regardless of how we may feel, the truth is unchangeable.  And God is unchangeable and always worthy of praise.  We always have reason to give thanks.  Psalm 100 helps us see why.   We belong to One who is always good and has everlasting mercy.

Psalm 100

Sacrificial Gift of Temporary Tomb

Each of the four gospel accounts point out that Joseph of Arimathea risked his reputation, wealth, and future in order to claim the body of Jesus as He was executed upon the cross.  None of the family nor disciples could or would do what Joseph did.  Even more amazing, Joseph had been secretive about His devotion to Jesus until this very public stand.  Let’s explore what prompted Joseph and why this is important, even though it was only temporary.
