Admittance to Grace

Having been justified by faith in Jesus Christ, we have received peace with God, access to His presence, and confident hope that is greater than any circumstances. In fact, our troubles can work to increase our confident expectation through His Holy Spirit at work in us.

Promise to Abraham

We continue our series following just some of the many promises by God that build up the anticipation for the Messiah’s arrival in the incarnation that we know as Christmas.  And the covenant promises that the LORD made to Abram (later Abraham) are pivotal in that understanding.  The Messiah as a descendant of Abraham will bless all of the scattered families and tribes of the earth with the opportunity to know the LORD God and be reconciled to Him.

Glory in the Cross

The centerpiece of Paul’s life was shameful in the eyes of the Roman and Jewish world – the cross of Jesus. But throughout his letter to the churches of Galatia, Paul has insisted that the cross is the most important part of our theology as Christians and more. The cross is our only standing against our past before a holy and righteous God. The cross is our only hope in this present life. The cross secures our claim in the new creation of eternity future.

Inherit with Christ

The gospel is for all people: Jews and Gentiles of all ethnicities, all economic classes, both men and women. We are all equally sinners, and we are equally adopted into the family of God through Christ, receiving an equal salvation. The fullness of time has come, God sent forth His Son that we might receive the adoption into the family of God.  And as adopted “sons” we receive the inheritance in Christ!

Faithful with Grace to Save

The Messiah is Jewish. Do His Gentile followers need to become Jewish or is He Jewish enough for them too? The question vexed some of the early believers who could only imagine God working through the old covenants given to Abraham and Moses. But some insisted that the new covenant in Christ’s death and resurrection replaced the old covenants. How would the dispute be settled? They saw what God was doing among the Gentiles coincided with what God said He would do in the Law and Prophets. He would be faithful with grace to forgive any and everyone who trusts Him to save.

Having Received Christ Jesus

If you are standing still, you are losing ground. Paul challenges the believers in Colosse to not abandon their good start in Christ and to continue to build their life on the good foundation in Christ. Using metaphors from agriculture, construction, and walking, Paul admonishes them that faithfulness is not stationary nor complacent. Faithfulness is effort and action. Don’t do nothing. Walk in Christ. Build, stabilize, and abound in Christ.

Looking unto Jesus

As both our example of faith and the object of our faith, Jesus stands as the climax of Hebrews 11 and its list of heroes. Thus let us run the course set before us with endurance. There are hindrances to be set aside. There will be hostility from opposition. But looking unto Jesus, we see Him on the other side of those sacrifices and seated at the right hand of God. Let’s Go!

Humanity made in Image of God

God made the first humans to be His representatives (image-bearers) within the material creation.  They went rogue and broke the system and we all descend from that catastrophe.  Yet God still loves His fallen image-bearers and is redeeming them and repairing them through the perfect Image of God, Jesus Christ.

Song of Giving Thanks

Regardless of how we may feel, the truth is unchangeable.  And God is unchangeable and always worthy of praise.  We always have reason to give thanks.  Psalm 100 helps us see why.   We belong to One who is always good and has everlasting mercy.

Children of God – Lavished with Love

As the song says, to be fully known and fully loved is a gift only God can give.  When we are born again, the LORD also adopts us as His sons and His daughters, to be lavished with unconditional love – a love we did not deserve nor need to try to deserve.  It is ours by unmerited grace.  And as we contemplate that love and grace, especially as embodied in Jesus Christ, we are being transformed into that same image in preparation for that day of completion when we see Him as He is.
