Written for our Learning

What is written in the Scriptures is written for us so that we will know why we can endure with joy and abiding comfort through Holy Spirit that gives us confident hope – so that we might know God.

God is Light

Excited to have a special speaker this Sunday as Mason preached from 1 John 1.  Using his science background, he teaches us a new perspective with the familiar phrase, “God is Light.”  Are we walking in the light of God’s Word and His Spirit with Christ and with His community of believers?

A Good and Perfect Rule

The rule of sin is broken by Christ as He bodily defeated the temptations of sin and He defeats sin in our body through His Spirit. Christ fulfilled righteousness bodily so that He can bring righteousness in our body through His Spirit.  How does He do that?  By putting to death the sinful temptations and being living sacrifices that are holy and acceptable to God, the good and perfect will of God.

I’d Rather Have Jesus

Podcast Title - I'd Rather Have Jesus

“The eyes of the LORD run to and fro over the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of them whose heart is loyal toward Him.” God is looking for opportunities to do great things. Unfortunately the problem is on our end. We are missing out on His answers to prayer by not asking or by not believing fully in Him. Let us lean wholly on His everlasting arms.
May I suggest listening to George Beverly Shea sing, “I’d Rather Have Jesus” first?

Wash with Word

How shall a person be cleansed from sin? By guarding their way with the Word of God. We cover a lot of ground for this Bible study as we look a lot of Psalms that are examples of doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness.

Psalm 119:9-16, 18
Ephesians 5:25-27 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Brad’s thought verses: Philippians 4:6-8 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 Romans 12:1-2 Psalm 19:12-14 Psalm 139:23-24
Doctrine: Psalm 68:5-6 Psalm 103:8-13 Psalm 136:1
Reproof: Psalm 27:1 Psalm 42:11 Psalm 121:1-2
Correction: Psalm 19:12-14 Psalm 139:23-24
Instruction in Righteousness: Psalm 37:4-5, 23-24 Psalm 118:8, 24

Repent to Worship

This little psalm flows out of a spiritual disaster for David and all Israel. But you need not to have murdered someone to utilize and value this gem of a prayer to the LORD. This psalm guides us in how to confess our sin and ask for restoration from God toward worship of His greatness.
For background, read 2 Samuel 11-12. And for follow-up, read Psalm 32.

Ponder the Blessing

The gospel is simple enough for a child yet profound enough to challenge the elders for all of their years. And the Scriptures reward those who seek, no matter how many times the seekers return to the fountain. Psalm 1 reminds us that God and His Word are worth the effort of chewing on His truth. At the start of a new year, let’s no falter in our pursuit of letting God’s Words change us.

Do not forget

There can be so many distractions and discouragements that tempt us to subtly forget who God is. If we have hard times, we are tempted to doubt Him and His character. If we have it good, we are tempted to forget Him and keep the glory for ourselves. We give God the blame and steal the credit. But Moses warns us to not forget who we often are and remember who God always is.
(also, my memory failed and I misquoted Matthew Henry’s fourth thankful. He was thankful that he wasn’t the one who stole a wallet.)

Moses Reminds

After forty years in the wilderness, Moses gives the next generation a reminder of what was taught at Mount Sinai, renewing the covenant between the LORD and Israel. The Ten Commandments and the Greatest Commandment – the Shema. Listen and obey! Love the LORD our God. He loved us first

Necessary for Obedience

Jesus beautifully illustrated the command to love one’s neighbor with the story of the Good Samaritan, where someone who had no reason to show compassion to a hurting person went above and beyond to help.  But how can one have that kind of love for another?  The following episode that Luke reports shows that Jesus answers that question for Mary and Martha.  The most needful thing is to sit at the feet of Jesus to learn of His love.
