Don’t Just Stand

From the ears to the Mouth

Now that our heart spoke through our mouth of our faith in Lord Jesus, now we are all sent with beautiful feet to tell others to hear of the good news of Jesus the Messiah so that they too can believe in their heart and confess with their mouth of their trust in Lord Jesus. And as we tell those in our circle of influence, we help send others to go beyond our circle to around the area and around the world.

Faithful to Teach

Paul and Barnabas start their first missionary journey by direction of Holy Spirit to go to Cyprus and to points beyond. Luke shares the sermon Paul preached when invited to speak at the synagogue in Antioch Pisidia. Starting in the Jewish Scriptures, he shows that God fulfills His promises through Jesus Christ, the Son of David, crucified and resurrected as promised. And through faith in Christ, we can be reconciled to God, forgiven of our sins against Him.

Faithful Witness

Stephen was full of faith and the Holy Spirit when he was chosen to help with the church’s ministry to the widows. But his testimony for Jesus angered the Jewish authorities who decided to try him for blasphemy. But it was them who was proven guilty of blasphemy against God and His Holy presence as murderers of God’s Messiah. Their outrage leads to the martyrdom of this faithful witness, but not before his testimony sets in motion the first great persecution of the church and sets a persecutor on the road to an unexpected end.

Pentecost Communion

Jesus promised that His people would be empowered to be His witnesses in word and action.  The Holy Spirit began to answer that promise on the Day of Pentecost, fifty days after the Resurrection.  Peter uses the occasion to proclaim Christ, crucified and risen, and forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus’s name.  That reconciliation brings about fellowship both between God and humanity and among people.

Testify of Jesus

The Jewish holiday of Pentecost celebrated the harvest that was started at Passover and Feast of Firstfruits. And the crowd at this festival heard the sound of a tornado and flames of fire followed by the praises of God in languages beyond Judea and Galilee. The followers of Jesus used the opportunity to obey His command to be witnesses to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Listen in as Peter gives the keynote message – Repent and be baptized.

One Generation to the Next

We get a peek behind the curtain of the tent into the family of Moses. His father-in-law is the priest of the tribe of Midian who worships the LORD. But the stories from his son-in-law Moses cause the old priest to worship and exclaim that his faith in the one true God is greater now than ever before. Continue in Prayer

Paul encourages the believers in this little church of a town he never visited to pray like their lives depend on it. Like the city guard, be vigilant in praying with copious amounts of thanksgiving. Then Paul gives them two areas to be praying – pray for the missionary team and pray for themselves to be missionaries where they live to those outside the kingdom of Christ.
