Joseph and Mary

Joseph was a simple hard-working young man, betrothed to be married to a pretty girl from Nazareth. But appearances are not always what they seem to be. Mary is caught up in something much bigger than Joseph or her has ever imagined. And he is given the choice to embrace the bigger story God is writing. God is about to rescue His people.

Pilate and The King

The Jewish authorities had already decided to have Jesus executed and intended to get the Roman authorities to do the dirty work for them. Pilate however is uncooperative at first and decides to hear Jesus for himself to know who this Man is who is called the King of the Jews. Pilate gets more truth than he is interested in hearing and misses out on the answer to his question.

Stand in the Gap

Stand in Breach

The LORD sought for someone to intercede to Him on behalf of the people and maybe to turn the tide back toward God. But there was neither anyone qualified and able to do that. Nor were the people willing to be led toward a change of mind, much less a change of behavior. Thus that generation would experience the just return for their wicked behavior. Will we?

Two Women, Two Paths

Jehoshaphat brought the house of Ahab into the house of David and nearly brought the end of the line of David with it. In two generations, there seemed to be none left to carry on and the promise of God in jeopardy. But God is faithful. And He is often at work in ways we cannot see.  And two women are pivotal in this story, each taking a different path to greatness.

Loyal in Faith

“The eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of them whose heart is pure toward Him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Jehoshaphat is tested later in his life to see his devotion and dependence upon the God of Israel. The good king’s faith is not in vain. The LORD delivers so that we too will know that the battle is not ours but is the LORD’s. Just trust in Him.

Delight in God’s Ways

Jehoshaphat starts well in following the LORD but he also works to bring his people closer to God with the removal of idolatry and teaching the law of the LORD. But then he makes a dangerous alliance with Ahab of the northern tribes of Israel – a follower of Baal. But when Jehoshaphat is rebuked by the prophet, he seems to repent and pursue God instead of hardening his heart as his father Asa had done. Jehoshaphat delights in the LORD.

Faithful or Forsaking

Faithful or Forsaking

Asa was king of Judah who changed from his father’s pattern to seek the LORD and His help. The LORD was seeking someone to let Him do just that. Are we faithful to let God work through us?

Son of David, Have Mercy

David is pretty heroic in Sunday School stories, pretty cringe-worthy at other points in his life. Yet God made a BIG promise to David that people are still talking about it in eternity. God would establish a “house” for David so that the Son of David would establish a “house” for God and be established in God’s kingdom forever. With all the talk about “seed” and “forever” it makes you wonder how anyone got confused about this covenant ever being about a temple in Jerusalem. It is so much bigger than that.

Repent and be Revived

Hezekiah was a different man from everyone else, especially different from his father, Ahaz – a wicked king. Hezekiah started from his first day to reignite the worship of the True God. He called upon God’s ministers to start the process of consecrating themselves and the holy places of God.
Quickly, they got to work and began sanctifying the house of God for worship. By the end of the month, the order of worship was active in the temple. This prompted Hezekiah to call for national repentance and commitment to the LORD through a special Passover celebration.  Confession, Contrition, and Consecration.   And the people responded because God had prepared hearts in His people to seek Him. Revival was afire.
