The Need for Wisdom

Wisdom series applied. David choice to number the militias is problematic. Even his most capable general tactfully questioned the wisdom of doing it. As is often the case, David did not see the folly of his pride until after the deed was done. But to his credit, his heart condemned him before the consequences began to fall, and David repented. He threw himself upon the mercy of God to mitigate the fallout. But God was working something bigger than the immediate judgement. The LORD was bringing about the next step in the worship of the True God with determining the location of the temple and farther still, the atonement the Son of David would accomplish centuries later.

Who will you follow?

Psalm 2 builds on the foundation left by Psalm 1. In light of eternity, don’t be foolish and rebel against the Word of God. He has shown what the future holds. Don’t be on the wrong side of history. God wins. Always has and always will. Circumstances may deceived many to think that people can redefine good and evil. But the patience of God will one one day be done, and justice will come from heaven through the Son on earth. Be wise. Be ready for that day. The beginning of wisdom prepares us for the end. Love Him with rejoicing. One day, He will make all things right.

The Bigger Story in Ruth

Boaz and Ruth were faithful to God in their generation.  God used that faithfulness to pivot the story of redemption from Genesis all the way to King David and beyond to the King of kings Jesus.  Yet, like us, Ruth and Boaz did not realize the importance of their place in God’s story, they were just doing the right thing because God said to do it.  May we take heart to remain faithful and let God do His work for the glory of Christ.

Why David confessed his guilt before God.

David was a man after God’s own heart.  Yet he was not a flawless man.  David sinned with tragic consequences. But the man with a heart who pursued God was sure to repent once he was confronted with his failures.  We look at the features of David’s change of mind from sinning to repenting.  He knew that God would accept his plea for mercy and restore the joy of his salvation.   Do we have a heart that yearns for God even after we have let God down?
