Inherit with Christ

The gospel is for all people: Jews and Gentiles of all ethnicities, all economic classes, both men and women. We are all equally sinners, and we are equally adopted into the family of God through Christ, receiving an equal salvation. The fullness of time has come, God sent forth His Son that we might receive the adoption into the family of God.  And as adopted “sons” we receive the inheritance in Christ!

Blessed with Christ

How good is good enough for whom? If the expectation is perfection to the ponderous law of God, then we all fall short. But the LORD has declared some to be in right-standing with Him. But how? Belief and disobedience. Blessing and curses. The weighty dilemma is resolved by Christ on the cross.

Crucified with Christ

Paul says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Repent and be Revived

Hezekiah was a different man from everyone else, especially different from his father, Ahaz – a wicked king. Hezekiah started from his first day to reignite the worship of the True God. He called upon God’s ministers to start the process of consecrating themselves and the holy places of God.
Quickly, they got to work and began sanctifying the house of God for worship. By the end of the month, the order of worship was active in the temple. This prompted Hezekiah to call for national repentance and commitment to the LORD through a special Passover celebration.  Confession, Contrition, and Consecration.   And the people responded because God had prepared hearts in His people to seek Him. Revival was afire.

Surrender and Rescue

The Apostle Paul. Not everyone called him by that title, nor believe that he should have that title. And they also didn’t think he knew the gospel. So Paul writes this letter to churches he had just planted, not just to promote himself, but to verify the truth of Jesus Christ and the good news that he taught as the only way to God. There is no other way to heaven than through Jesus Christ, and Paul was chosen to bear that message.

Faithful with Grace to Save

The Messiah is Jewish. Do His Gentile followers need to become Jewish or is He Jewish enough for them too? The question vexed some of the early believers who could only imagine God working through the old covenants given to Abraham and Moses. But some insisted that the new covenant in Christ’s death and resurrection replaced the old covenants. How would the dispute be settled? They saw what God was doing among the Gentiles coincided with what God said He would do in the Law and Prophets. He would be faithful with grace to forgive any and everyone who trusts Him to save.

Faithful in Humility

Barnabas and Paul get chased from one town and preach in the next town. Lystra of Lycaonia presents a new challenge for the apostles. A miraculous healing prompts the locals to think that Paul and Barnabas are the pagan gods in disguise. It’s all the apostles can do to convince the multitude that worship belongs to the Living God, Creator of heaven and earth. Their testimony of humility is eclipsed by their testimony of faithfulness as they continue to testify even after Paul is nearly murdered in Lystra.

Faithful to Teach

Paul and Barnabas start their first missionary journey by direction of Holy Spirit to go to Cyprus and to points beyond. Luke shares the sermon Paul preached when invited to speak at the synagogue in Antioch Pisidia. Starting in the Jewish Scriptures, he shows that God fulfills His promises through Jesus Christ, the Son of David, crucified and resurrected as promised. And through faith in Christ, we can be reconciled to God, forgiven of our sins against Him.

Faithful to Pray

Persecution begins again for the church in Jerusalem. And this time, the first of the apostles is executed for his testimony of Jesus. And Peter is arrested and scheduled to be executed next. The church does not give up on praying to God. God answers prayers. He brought James home to be with him, a faithful witness. God delivered Peter from prison, in a way unexpected by the prayer meeting at Mary’s house. Don’t give up on praying to our Father. But trust the results to Him.

Faithful to Show Love

Saul of Tarsus started a persecution that scattered the believers from Jerusalem to parts far beyond traditional Jewish lands. God prepares the apostle Peter to reach a few Gentiles so that the church in Jerusalem is prepared to receive Gentiles without the law of Moses to unite them. Instead, it will be the law of Christ that unites His kingdom. And that is shown here through Barnabas, first to Saul then to Gentiles in Antioch.
