Run with Endurance

Having heard the testimony of these heroes of the faith and that God testifies of their faith, we are inspired to run with endurance the race of faith set before us. But we must look steadfastly at Jesus in order to stay the course and finish well, for He is the One to have blazed the trail and finished the challenge against all the obstacles. Otherwise, we will grow weary and despair along the way. But God has better things ahead for those who finish. It is worth it!

Choice of faith

Moses was pointed in direction of faith by his birth parents and their faith. His adoptive family gave him much but when the time came, he knew that Egypt did not offer him eternal life. By reasoned faith, Moses chose to pursue long-term gain and reward even if it cost him short-term pain and loss. He looked to the reward over following fear. And his courageous faith inspired his people to trust God to deliver them through the Red Sea.

Pioneers in Faith

The LORD challenged Abraham and Sarah to trust Him enough to leave their home, their family, and their culture identity in order to let God start something new with them – a new home, a new family, and new cultural identity. And courageously, they followed the LORD based on His promise. We are given promises of the same vein in order to follow Christ into a new cultural identity, new family, and new home, superior to anything found on earth. Will we follow by faith?

Noah found grace

Noah found grace

Noah sought God while living in a world that ignored God at best and defied God more often than not. And by his faith, Noah found grace in God’s sight. And God rewards those who seek Him. The LORD showed Noah the coming judgment and the plan for salvation from the condemnation. Noah by faith, trusted and obeyed the plan of God and rescued himself and his household from the judgment against sin.

Admittance to Grace

Having been justified by faith in Jesus Christ, we have received peace with God, access to His presence, and confident hope that is greater than any circumstances. In fact, our troubles can work to increase our confident expectation through His Holy Spirit at work in us.

Faithful to Pray

Jesus used the story of a self-serving judge and a persistent widow to teach His disciples how much better God the Father is at answering prayer. But will we trust that He hears and answers our prayers in His good timing? Will we be found faithful when He comes?

Don’t Just Stand

We enjoyed having Jake and his family share with us their testimony of God’s faithfulness and their mission project in the other “battlefield town.”  Plus he preaches to us of the importance of Standing Firm and not falling away in challenging times.  But the Word of God calls us to more than standing, we need to be contributing to the kingdom of God.

A Sower, Seeds, and Soils

Jesus uses stories to whet the appetite of those in the crowd who want to know more, knowing that most in the crowd are not there for the teaching. But the stories pack a lot of truth that His faithful disciples ask to understand better. So Jesus explains this parable to them so they can know how to understand other parables He used. Let’s walk through this story to see how we measure up as soil for growing a Christian.

Faithful in Humility

Barnabas and Paul get chased from one town and preach in the next town. Lystra of Lycaonia presents a new challenge for the apostles. A miraculous healing prompts the locals to think that Paul and Barnabas are the pagan gods in disguise. It’s all the apostles can do to convince the multitude that worship belongs to the Living God, Creator of heaven and earth. Their testimony of humility is eclipsed by their testimony of faithfulness as they continue to testify even after Paul is nearly murdered in Lystra.

Faithful through Persecution

Stephen was a faithful witness, even through opposition, persecution, and death.  But the seeds of the gospel that he had sown in his death did not produce immediate fruit.  Instead, a chief persecutor arose who wreaked havoc on the church, scattering them from Jerusalem.  Why would God allow this to happen to His infant church?  Instead, Jesus prepared His followers for this eventuality, knowing that what the world had done to Him, the world would do to His followers.  And He prepared His followers with great promises that His faithfulness would empower them to be faithful.
