More than words to share the gospel

Paul didn’t have much time with this little church plant, but he quickly fell in love with these people.   As he recounted how the gospel had been shared with them, he gave God the praise for how the gospel was now spreading from them to their neighbors.  And we see how we can share such good news with our neighbors as well.

Being with God in the Word

While the pastor was on vacation, Gabe Harris came and preached the word for us at Prairie Oaks.  We wanted to share the audio from His message on the importance of daily time with God through His Word.  Please give it a listen as he had many good points that our summary does not cover.

We live for Him who died for us and rose again.

Paul was so committed to Christ because he marveled over the Savior who died and rose again to save a sinner like Paul.  He challenges us as well to live in zealous gratitude to Christ who has made us new, reconciled us to the Father, and has given us a mission of bringing others to Christ.

Christ strengthens us

image from the Bible App and Church Motion Graphics Inc.This is such a wonderful verse that concisely gives us His promise to help us … to do what exactly?  We unpack that question as we see in Scripture God’s promise to help us through faith in Christ, focusing on Christ, that there is fruit in Christ to whom be all the glory.

Contentment and Generosity

The apostle Paul was thankful for the generosity of the church in Philippi toward his ministry, but perhaps not why you would think.  He was not concerned about having his needs met, Christ did that even if Paul lacked many things we consider necessities.  Rather he thanked God that their generosity was fruit of Christ working in them and through them as a part of their worship.  Paul saw that contentment in Christ fueled generosity for Christ.

What are you thinking?

Part two of a two-part series on “You Are What You Think.”  The apostle Paul tackles the two most important conversations – the first is with God and the second is with ourselves.  That internal dialogue in our heads and hearts has tremendous influence over us.  Thus the Spirit says to no longer be passive in following your thoughts but to redirect and lead those thoughts toward virtues.  And to do those things.

Peace of Mind from the God of Peace

Part one of a two-part series on “You Are What You Think.”  The apostle Paul challenges our inner dialogue to choose between worry or peace.  And that is a challenge for some of us.  But God also equips us with reasons to trust Him in spite of the appearances of the circumstances around us.  The Holy Spirit knows how to give us His peace that is better.

Press Forward to the End

Single-minded focus and laser intensity are the impressions we get of the apostle Paul from his letters and the glimpses we get from Luke’s account in the book of Acts.  Yet Paul is convinced that each follower of Christ should whole-heartedly pursue a closer fellowship with Christ each day.  We should strive always forward with Jesus.

Prayer of Thanks for his friends

Tough and passionate, yet the apostle Paul stopped to write thank you notes to those wonderful friends who financially supported his ministry.  And we benefit from that gratitude with the wonderful letter to the church in Philippi.  We take a Sunday to appreciate his gratitude and learn more about prayers of thanksgiving.

Christmas story told by Apostle Paul

The Apostle Paul knew the Christmas story (after all, his bff was Luke who tells us much of the Christmas story).  But in his letter to the Galatian believers, Paul was more concerned with the significance of the Incarnation than the rest of the characters in the nativity set.
