The writer of Hebrews wants us to grasp the sure and confident stabilizer to orient our life steadily to the presence of God – only available through the Perfect High Priest, Jesus Christ.

John wrote his gospel account after the other three and added details pertinent to His purpose – “that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31). But then he added an epilogue to tie up some loose ends from his narrative. And it turns out that Peter is not the only loose end, so are we.

Each of the four gospel accounts point out that Joseph of Arimathea risked his reputation, wealth, and future in order to claim the body of Jesus as He was executed upon the cross. None of the family nor disciples could or would do what Joseph did. Even more amazing, Joseph had been secretive about His devotion to Jesus until this very public stand. Let’s explore what prompted Joseph and why this is important, even though it was only temporary.

He rode into town on an animal that had never been rode before. It sounds like a scene from a Western. But what is the significance of the Hero on a donkey? And what is the lesson we should take away from the scene that day as they acclaimed Jesus as their anticipated Messiah, then five days later would cry out for His execution? We have a reason for confidence and hope. Christ has risen from the grave, it’s a historical fact. And facts have consequences. And when we anchor or life to facts like the resurrection, it changes how we live. And in the midst of fear and uncertainty around s and maybe within us, the resurrection of Christ gives us a reason for confidence and hope.

God had a word of hope for the beleaguered exiles of Jerusalem living in Babylon. That message of hope and grace is ultimately fulfilled in Christ for us. We walk through this familiar verse and its surrounding context to understand how our troubling times are not an indication that God has lost control. Rather, His message to us is that He has a plan to give us hope and confidence beyond our circumstances.

Boaz and Ruth were faithful to God in their generation. God used that faithfulness to pivot the story of redemption from Genesis all the way to King David and beyond to the King of kings Jesus. Yet, like us, Ruth and Boaz did not realize the importance of their place in God’s story, they were just doing the right thing because God said to do it. May we take heart to remain faithful and let God do His work for the glory of Christ.

Boaz and Ruth are such godly examples for us to emulate. Yet both of them humbly trusted God for their salvation. Even Boaz admitted (beyond what he understood) that there was a closer Redeemer than he could be. And so we finish by looking at the Greater Redeemer than Boaz. Jesus purchases our sin debt to God, rescues us from slavery to sin, and reconciles us into the family of God. He is our Greater Redeemer.

God is at work in some people and you cannot miss His handiwork. Their lives radiate His love and righteousness. And Ruth has come a long ways from her old way of life in Moab to Bethlehem of Judah as a woman of great reputation. And God is using her faithfulness to Him to bear testimony to His faithfulness to work in behalf of those whose hearts are set on Him (2 Chronicles 16:9). And the LORD has another man of great valor in Bethlehem to be used by Him to bless Ruth. God is on the move!
