So Great a Salvation – Spirit

A little review of what we have done to prepare us for wrapping up this mini-series marveling at the great salvation that we have by faith in Christ. The Holy Spirit is the One who seals and applies so many facets of this salvation. And He uses the church to help us understand these and more.

So Great a Salvation – Adopted

A parenthesis in our “So Great a Salvation” mini-series, we look at adoption into the family of God.  In Matthew 17, Jesus made an interesting comment to Peter that prompted a squirrel chase that ended in Romans 8. Being sons and daughters of God and joint-heirs with Christ is kinda a big deal. But all of creation yearning for our complete adoption, the redemption of our body should give perspective that this salvation is bigger than we thought.

Pillar of Truth

The household of God is the church. And Paul says that the church as the united people of the Bible is the pillar of truth. And the greatest truth the church has is the gospel of Jesus Christ. We cannot afford to be distracted or deceived from the proclamation of Jesus.

Delights in Mercy

Micah may be considered one of the minor prophets but only in length not in potency. And among the many important and recognizable verses in Micah’s writing are these last few verses. The LORD pardons iniquity in us and will defeat sin overall. He will cast our sins away from us as though they are on the bottom of the ocean. What do we desire more: His pardon or our sin? Do we show mercy as we have been given mercy?

Kingdom Comes

The glory of the King was veiled behind flesh but on one occasion it peeked through the veil for three men to see. And they were changed by what they saw. They did not understand all that they saw but they never forgot when Jesus was revealed as the Son of God, fully revealed on Resurrection Day.

Father Reveals Son

Jesus could be mysterious at times. So when He asked His disciples questions, it’s a wonder that someone would speak up. Thankfully Simon Peter would speak up. And His answer this time is as solid as a rock, a boulder to be precise. Only the Father could reveal such timeless truth for someone to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Redeemed and Restored

Isaiah foretold of the Servant of God who would suffer death as the perfect sacrifice for the sin of God’s people. His words remained mysterious for seven hundred years until Jesus of Nazareth accomplished that sinless life and atoning death on the Roman cross. And His followers used Isaiah 53 to explain the significance of Jesus’s death and the reason for His resurrection. Peter applies that truth as the reason for us to live differently reflecting the new life we have in Christ.

Triumphal Entry

Jesus arrives in Jerusalem to cheering crowds, hailing Him as their favorite conquering king. But while He does not silence the crowd, He also does little to encourage the scene. He shows up in humility on a borrowed donkey, weeping. He knows that their worship is superficial. They will deny Him before the end of the week. But He knows how the story ends.

Knowing Christ

Paul said that nothing compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ by faith and experience of walking with Him in trust and obedience. And self-righteousness prevents us from knowing Christ.
