Gospel of Relentless God

Acts 13 records for us a transition in the story. The focus is shifting from Peter and those apostles to Paul as an apostle of Christ to the Gentiles. And thus Luke gives us the first sample of Paul’s sermon, given in the synagogue of Antioch in Pisidia.
Paul tells the story of the gospel. For the gospel is not simply a plan or a set of beliefs. The gospel is the person of Jesus the Messiah fulfilling the story of a relentless God to rescue His people.

The Miraculous Catch

Jesus draws people unto Himself with His power and His words. And some will want even more and see His working. Through repentance and faith, these people will hear the call to greater intimacy with Christ. And intimacy that empowers them to be a part of drawing others to Christ.

Rahab and Joshua

Rahab teaches us as much about Jesus as Joshua does.  She enters the story with a sordid reputation that tarnishes nearly everyone who associates with her. Yet she is crucial to knowing God and the work that the LORD was doing with the Israelites and Canaanites. So much so that the New Testament reveals more about her and through her than the Hebrew Scriptures do.  We are all more like Rahab than we may realize.
Sinners saved by grace.

Favor with God comes first

“Never has a man spoken like this Man!” Jesus had a demeanor that even His opponents found irrefutable at times.  It has been remarked that the Lamb of God had to be silent at His trial or they would not have been able to carry out their miscarriage of justice.  John tells of one of those occasions when the opponents of Jesus were confounded by the Son of Man.  Yet Jesus showed unswerving loyalty to His first calling, to perfectly obey the will of His Father.

More than words to share the gospel

Paul didn’t have much time with this little church plant, but he quickly fell in love with these people.   As he recounted how the gospel had been shared with them, he gave God the praise for how the gospel was now spreading from them to their neighbors.  And we see how we can share such good news with our neighbors as well.
