Authority of Christ



In the Sermon on the Mount, the Way of the King has been made clear by Jesus of Nazareth.
But what authority does this Man of humble circumstances have to claim to be King and Judge with all Authority.  Matthew retells the evidence for the Authority of Christ.

Love without exception



Ouch!  Jesus straightens out our understanding of God’s Law, and our shallow physical obedience is pitiful in light of the fuller application of the Law by the Judge who looks on the heart.  We need His mercy even when we try showing mercy.

Christ fulfilled the Law fully



 

Jesus next prepares His disciples for a new perspective on the Law as He corrects their view of what righteousness looks like and where it comes from.  Christ fulfilled true righteousness because self-righteousness doesn’t meet God’s approval.

To live by the King’s standards and instructions will cause one to stand out and be different.  Jesus illustrates the affect this difference will have on the world around you with these two metaphors – salt and light.

The Kingdom Way to Joy



The King lays out the way to have joy in His Kingdom.  But it’s unlike any other way to happiness, but it does involve a joy greater than what happens.  Sometimes known as the Beatitudes, the King offers true blessing in Himself.
