Kept and Sanctified

Jesus prays for His disciples. We already knew that He did. But one of the longest prayers recorded by Jesus is found in John 17. He prayed for Himself and He prays for His disciples and for those disciples that His disciples will make. He prays that the Father would “keep” them in the faith, set apart and made holy for bringing glory to God by representing Him well and making disciples.

Glory to Son and Father

God the Son prays to His Father as He prepares to complete the earthly mission of making disciples and accomplishing eternal salvation for all who believe in Him. This first part of the prayer is for Himself. And we get to hear the intimate conversation as Jesus eyes the glory of finishing the journey and returning to the Father even through obedient suffering and death.

Faithful to the Promise

The LORD is faithful to His promises and He used a faithful young woman, Jehoshebeath, to secretly preserve the life of an infant descendant of King David. She raised him within the refuge of the temple of the LORD and its precincts until he was seven years old. Then the faithful high priest, Jehoiada, to orchestrate a reversal and justice to restore the throne of Jerusalem to God’s appointed family of David. And thus began a remarkable revival of true worship of the true God of Israel, at least as long as Jehoiada was alive to lead it.

Written for our Learning

What is written in the Scriptures is written for us so that we will know why we can endure with joy and abiding comfort through Holy Spirit that gives us confident hope – so that we might know God.

Work of Servant

Have you wondered what of your work will lasts? Maybe all of us have. And often we should re-evaluate if our priorities are of eternal significance. But even seemingly insignificant work can be significant if it is done as to the Lord (Colossians 3:23). And if the Messiah was tempted to doubt the value of His efforts, He trusted that His reward was with the Lord. And His work would reap results to the ends of the earth. And we get to make that more true every day!

(I also included my “singing” of William Willliams’ “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” but don’t feel obligated to listen.)

Run with Endurance

Having heard the testimony of these heroes of the faith and that God testifies of their faith, we are inspired to run with endurance the race of faith set before us. But we must look steadfastly at Jesus in order to stay the course and finish well, for He is the One to have blazed the trail and finished the challenge against all the obstacles. Otherwise, we will grow weary and despair along the way. But God has better things ahead for those who finish. It is worth it!

Choice of faith

Moses was pointed in direction of faith by his birth parents and their faith. His adoptive family gave him much but when the time came, he knew that Egypt did not offer him eternal life. By reasoned faith, Moses chose to pursue long-term gain and reward even if it cost him short-term pain and loss. He looked to the reward over following fear. And his courageous faith inspired his people to trust God to deliver them through the Red Sea.

Pioneers in Faith

The LORD challenged Abraham and Sarah to trust Him enough to leave their home, their family, and their culture identity in order to let God start something new with them – a new home, a new family, and new cultural identity. And courageously, they followed the LORD based on His promise. We are given promises of the same vein in order to follow Christ into a new cultural identity, new family, and new home, superior to anything found on earth. Will we follow by faith?

Noah found grace

Noah found grace

Noah sought God while living in a world that ignored God at best and defied God more often than not. And by his faith, Noah found grace in God’s sight. And God rewards those who seek Him. The LORD showed Noah the coming judgment and the plan for salvation from the condemnation. Noah by faith, trusted and obeyed the plan of God and rescued himself and his household from the judgment against sin.

Admittance to Grace

Having been justified by faith in Jesus Christ, we have received peace with God, access to His presence, and confident hope that is greater than any circumstances. In fact, our troubles can work to increase our confident expectation through His Holy Spirit at work in us.
